Year 10 GCSE PE Group – North East Army Inter-schools Competition
Burnholme students went to Strensall Barracks Wednesday 23rd September and did our school proud!
Ryan Noble, Luke Smith, Amy Rowntree, Danni Linley, Jess Barker (team captain 1), Jordan Stewart (team captain 2), Steven Gillies, Amy Peacock, Anna Jackson, Liam Jones, Jon Kenyon, Dan O’Neil, Marios Pericleous and Ryan Stead were the dream team and they took the place by storm!
24 Schools from across the North-East came together to compete for the title of ‘Army Inter-schools Champion’ and we gave them a good run for their money! The day involved a number of activities from paintballing to laser quest but the real points were to be won and lost on more physically and mentally challenging activities!
Schools competed in 6 different events and our students came in the top five in four of them! We came 1st on the assault course (thanks to a great jenga performance from all those that participated!), 2nd in the general knowledge challenge, 2nd in the mountain bike challenge and 5th in the zip wire challenge. All of our students contributed to the obstacle courses in some way and this should be commended for this, it really was a course that required quick thinking and a desire to get to the end without bashing your knees into oblivion! Well done to everybody! However Ms Evans, Mrs Sherlock and Michelle, our TA, believe that the number of calories that our students had consumed by 11 o’clock was what gave them their energy to run the course in the fastest time of the day!
The way in which students represented our school was outstanding! They fought with grit, determination, 100% effort and a sense of humour in every event! A special mention must go to Steven Gillies! Apart from blasting the opposition away in the general knowledge challenge scoring 40/45, he wasn’t keen on a few of the events! Especially the 70ft zip wire! However with nobody else volunteering to do the last jump, he took it on! He was white as a sheet afterwards but he gained valuable points for our team and he should be given a pat on the back for his courage and determination!
Other special mentions must go to:
Jess Barker and Jordan Stewart who captained the team!
Ryan Stead who achieved the best score of the day on the indoor shooting range!
Luke Smith who won the Laser challenge and the scored our team maximum points on the zip wire challenge!
Jordan Stewart who outclassed everybody on the bungee activity!
Amy Peacock who climbed her way to victory on the moving climbing wall!
Jon Kenyon who gained our team maximum points on the mountain bike challenge, completing the course twice without a single fault!
Anna Jackson and Marios Pericleous who scored the only, and very valuable, 120 points on the football target challenge!
We had a fantastic day! Ms Evans, Mrs Sherlock and Michelle were immensely proud of the way that you conducted yourselves and the way in which you put Burnholme on the map! Well done!
