Minor Changes to the School Day

The end of term is almost upon us and as usual we have been busy planning for the next academic year.

One change which I would like you to be aware of is the modification to the school day which we are going to trial from September. Simply put we are moving form time from first thing in the morning to the end of the school day; we are also going to do away with afternoon registration.

The pattern of the school day will now look like this:

8.50 a.m.          A bell sounds informing students to go to registration

8.55 a.m.          Registration

9.00 a.m.          Lesson 1

10.00 a.m.        Lesson 2

11.00 a.m.        Break

11.15 a.m.        Lesson 3

12.15 p.m.       Lunch – all students are now required to stay on site.

1.10 p.m.         A bell sounds informing students to go to lesson 4

1.15 p.m.         Lesson 4 – this will be the legal p.m. registration

2.15 p.m.         Lesson 5

3.15 p.m.         Form Time / assembly

3.30 p.m.         After school activities

There are several reasons for trialling this change to the school day.

  • Form Tutors will have the opportunity to remind students to complete tasks for the next day
  • Teaching and learning will take place earlier in the day when the students are most productive.
  • Form Tutors will be able to monitor after school activities more closely.

I look forward to another year of Burnholme Community College going from strength to strength with your excellent support.
