Burnholme Art Teaching is the best of the best!

Burnholme Community College was nominated and won the prestigious Education Business Award for Arts and Crafts.

Following an outstanding OFSTED inspection last year the Arts and Design department was nominated by OFSTED because the quality of teaching is excellent and the progress made by students is outstanding when compared to the progress of students in other outstanding schools.

Head of the Art and Design Faculty Alexandra McHenry said:

“As a teacher it is second nature to work hard and try your best and the reward is that the students you teach are progressing well, are enjoying your subject and appreciating the world around them. This award, especially as it comes from OFSTED, recognises that the hard work and dedication that many teachers give every day is recognised and appreciated. To be nominated by OFSTED is quite breathtaking really but it couldn’t have happened without the hard work and enthusiasm of the fantastic students here at Burnholme.”

The Award Ceremony took place at the Emirates Stadium in London on Thursday 10th November 2011. The Award was presented by BBC Newsreader Moira Stewart.

Head teacher Simon Gumn said: “To have OFSTED come and inspect and conclude that our Art department is outstanding is in itself excellent. To then have them nominate us for such a prestigious award is simply marvellous. I am so pleased that the hard work and commitment shown by the department is being recognised on a national platform; this is the icing on the cake.”
