Art and Design at Burnholme College
“Art is the desire of a man to express himself to record the reactions of his personality to the world he lives in.” Amy Lowell
The department consists of two large classrooms that are mainly glazed on both sides, providing essential natural lighting needed for creativity. The rooms are joined by a short corridor that also provides access to an office area, kiln room, and storeroom.
The Art and Design department creates stimulating and motivating environment for students to enjoy the subject. Tasks and projects are varied, covering painting, drawing, textiles, sculpture, ceramics, print-making, digital imaging, collage, and graphic design.
During Key Stage 3, students will follow schemes of work that allow them to develop these practical skills with a contemporary or historical art context.
In Key Stage 4, students can choose one or more from the following- Fine Art, Textiles and Graphic Design. Projects vary widely combining traditional and innovative processes. Students are encouraged to develop an individual style to express social, historical, cultural and personal ideas.
“I found I could say things with colours and shapes that I couldn’t say in any other way, things I had no words for.” Georgia O’Keeffe
“Science and Art belong to the whole world, and before them vanish the barriers of nationality” Goethe
