About ICT

ICT lessons provide students with the opportunity to learn the
analytical, interpersonal, and technical skills they require to be active
participants in an exciting and dynamic world. To be responsible members of society, students must be aware of the ever-growing impacts of ICT. They need to reflect critically on ICT's role in society and consider its positive and negative effects. The
department’s role is to develop skills and attitudes that increase students'
abilities to address the social and ethical issues of technological
advancements.

The ICT department has 4 fully equipped ICT suites.  All suites are fully networked offering a wide variety of hardware and software for the students to experience and learn new skills. Each suite has its own SMART board to offer more interactive lessons.

The department ensures that every student is competent and confident in using core
applications. These range from: word processing, spreadsheets, email and the
internet, and presentations to working with digital images and digital
media. The aim is to ensure that all pupils achieve high standards in ICT
capability and to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding required
to become confident and competent users of ICT.

All pupils at Burnholme study ICT.  AT KS3, students study ICT for 1 hour per week, with schemes of work that incorporate new industry approved software, so that students can experience new technologies.

At KS4, students study ICT for 2 hours per week.  Burnholme Community College has a highly successful record of GCSE success at ICT.  For example, in 2011, 98% pupils gained A*-C, and 35% gained A grades.

For keen and/or talented pupils, there are opportunities to study at higher levels, the chance to attend a popular ICT club, and also trips, e.g. to the Imax at Bradford.
